My own experiences
In my opinion cooking is important to teach children regardless of their age. Making healthy food and to teach them to try everything. They learn fine motor skills, follow a plan and enjoy eating together and appreciating what they all made. I worked around the forest with my toddlers. In the beginning of the week I read a book about a Pick-nick in the forest. After the story I asked my toddlers "would you like to make a Pick-nick?" They loved the Idea and together we started to brainstorm about what we could make, what we needed, etc. on the and of the week we made a big buffet all morning. We started to cook in groups of 6. Their engagement was really high, they enjoyed it a lot. They learned new skills. When it was almost ready a couple of children startled to look for a nice spot in the grass and made it very cosy so we could sit all together and enjoy to be together and talk.
