Creative story telling

Story telling with art

In groups of 2 or 3 children. They get 5 pictures from artists, painters, … They will look carefully to all the pictures and discuss what each of them see, think, … feel and come up with a story. They can place the pictures in any order they want. Later the children will tell their story to the group. In this way you can make art more negotiable. This exercise will stimulate their creativity.

Why would you work with glove puppets?

welcome to the wondrous world of imagination.

The glove puppet! The glove puppet is not a thing to look at but a creature that comes to life. Because when it comes to life, the magic is created, the stories are released, there is contact and you are taken into the world of the other. We bring the doll to life and make sure he can make his own magic, over and over again.

You can reach children in a complete different way, you can surprise them. Their imagination will be stimulated. You can let the children understand things through the puppet. Sometimes its easier for a child to open up to the doll instead of the teacher. They can tell their emotions to the doll. Hand dolls are really an asset to the classroom.

Story Guess how much I love you

From Sam MacBratney

All the children got this book to take home for their mom for mothers day. I told the children first the story to read it out of the book. Later I told the story to them with my hand made dolls (watch the story by clicking on the picture below). Afterwards the children could play the story them selves in the classroom with the book and the hand dolls. This was a great success now the children were able to tell the story to their parents without actually reading.

Helping little Mouse Fien

Class practice example. Little mouse Fien had a problem. She wanted to visit Picasso (class hand puppet) but she couldn't swim, she couldn't fly, ... and she needed to cross the river to see her friend. So the children came up with ideas like make a bridge. But little mouse Fien said: I'm not strong, .. I have tiny hands. The children wanted to help an so a great week started. The children made bridges, roller coaster, flying machine, a bed, a chair so she could wait, ... so much learning and engagement got involved just by using my doll.

My own experience

The puppets are a great gift  to work with in the early years. It is like having two teachers/ friends in your classroom. Some children are to scared to talk to a person but open more up to a doll. You can integrate your doll in your teaching and so much more. That's why I love the most to work with this young age you can surprise them, they believe in magic, they believe the doll is real.
